Introducing my first Small Business Feature – TNS!
As a fellow small business owner myself, I understand the struggles and hard work it takes to manage a one. Some food for thought, 1) we do not always have the resources and funds to promote our passion, 2) we rely heavily on word of mouth because we can’t afford to advertise or market, 3) we work in our own business to prevent overheard because we don’t always generate high volumes of revenue. For these reasons and among others, I want to feature local and/or small businesses to give them an opportunity to share what they do. I am a firm believer in supporting, inspiring, and uplifting those around you. With that being said, lets begin! (P.S. Giveaway Included!)

What is TNS?
TNS is a small family-owned business that specializes in cake pops, brownies, and other baked goods. Items are made to order and available for pick up, delivery, or shipping. I don’t have a storefront right now, but maybe someday! Right now I take orders via my website or phone (I even get orders via text). The cake pops are also available at Cafe Press in the South Loop at 800 S. Clark St.
What is the reason behind the start of TNS?
I started TNS in April of 2015. I was working in public accounting and spending as much time as possible with my sons after unexpectedly becoming a single mom and needing to support all of us emotionally and financially. My dream had always been to stay home with them and I was crushed that it wasn’t happening. I was sleeping about 4 hours a night to maximize my time with them and shift work to times they were sleeping. I knew that wasn’t sustainable and had to make a change. I had been making cake pops for a few years and people raved about them so I went for it. I left public accounting and took a part-time job that cut my hours down to 20/week and started promoting my pops! The extra time with the boys and doing something I really enjoy has been wonderful. I actually get to sleep at night now, too (most of the time)!
What makes TNS special?
Everything is made how you want it! I personally connect with each customer to make sure they get exactly what they want, whether it’s elaborate details or they have a vague idea and want me to surprise them. I offer gluten free, dairy free, egg free and many other options. I even have some healthy options like peanut butter balls and protein bites.
What would you say is TNS biggest accomplishment?
One of my favorite things is getting to see someone bite into a cake pop and have that look of pure bliss. Getting told they’re better than any others they’ve had or that they didn’t even like cake pops until someone made them try mine is so rewarding. I’ve been able to do several large events and fundraisers – the largest was over 800 cake pops. I was able to help save a large wedding this past fall. I got a frantic call that the venue (including the caterer) had fallen through for a wedding happening in less than 24 hours. I stopped everything and baked for the next 12 hours to make over 200 cake pops for them. They were so happy and I was so proud of them for not postponing the wedding!
Ingredients are high quality, everything is made with love, and TNS supports a lot of local and global charities. A minimum of 10% is donated.
The most special thing about TNS is what it stands for – Tucker, Nixon, and Scottie – my most favorite people on the planet and my motivation for making every order delicious and a good experience.
Any exciting things happening at TNS that we should be looking for?
We develop new flavors and items all the time. Up next is boozy cupcakes (don’t worry – the boys won’t be my tasters for those!)
What advice do you have for those interested in starting a small business?
Pray a lot! 🙂 and be persistent. It can be discouraging, but you have to believe in yourself and what you’re doing. Surround yourself with positive people that will be real with you. They can help you fill in details you might miss because they bring a new perspective. Don’t sell yourself short – know your worth and stay firm on it.
Do you have any specials/deals right now and if so, when does it end?
None in particular, but I would like to offer 10% off for anyone who mentions my feature on Sany Delight’s
Blog or her
Instagram!
How can we find out more information about you and TNS?
Thoughts and opinions are of my own. I was provided answers from TNS to help supplement this post. I was not paid for this post.
